I have used Lua just for a translucent background so I can read the text on a "busy" wallpaper. When I wrote this post I could not get Lua to work in Fedora. Since some updates a few months ago, Lua has begun to work again for me.

I'm not good at Lua scripting, but I do admire people who can.

[...] Thanks Linux Journal for this one: Ok, You REALLY are into Twitter , and you want a faster way to tweet, or you’re frustrated at having to hunt through the log files, and you want to share that frustration with all your tweetererers. Here’s a great way: First, you’ll need to do one of 2 things: create a ~/bin folder, or have root access so you can add a new file to your /usr/bin folder. The 2nd way will allow for multiple-user capabilities. I’ll cover the first way, and move on to the Go here to see the original: Twitter for BASH [...]

That is a great script for tweeting. It has a lot of potential to be modified and used in a lot of different auto-tweeting applications. One minor revision I made follows:
#############################################################
#!/bin/sh
# tweet - command line twitter interface

. ~/.tweetCreds

msg=$(echo $@ | sed 's/+/%2B/g;s/ /+/g')
curl --silent --user "$user:$pass" --data-ascii \
 "status=$msg" "http://twitter.com/statuses/update.json" \
 > /dev/null
################################################################

In the ~/.tweetCreds file you should put the following information:
user="USERNAME"
pass="PASSWORD"

chmod 600 ~/.tweetCreds --> to allow only your user to be able to read and write the file
